Where to stay in La Maddalena? This is the most convenient area

Where’s the best place to stay in La Maddalena? This time the answer’s very simple, in fact this guide will be very short! 😀

We’ll see the best area to stay in La Maddalena to easily get around on foot in the evening, travel during the day using only public transport (if you like, read the guide to buses in La Maddalena) and also be close to the port for a quick departure when you leave the archipelago. And where also the evening life in La Maddalena is located.

Best area to stay in La Maddalena

The best area is the one in the red box on the map or its immediate surroundings: it’s the main urban center of La Maddalena island, the only one that combines all the advantages just mentioned.

Here you’ll also find La Maddalena’s pedestrian center, well-kept and pleasant for an evening stroll. The main avenues closed to cars are Via Garibaldi, Piazza Garibaldi, Piazza Comando and the immediate side streets.

The only potential disadvantage of staying in this area might be parking if you travel by car: if you’re staying very close to the pedestrian zone the accommodation may not have its own dedicated parking.

Here’s where to stay in La Maddalena

By clicking here you can find all available accommodations in the central area, and below I’ll leave you a few notable examples.

  • Hotel Villa Marina: one of the best-priced places in the area. A bit dated but has the essentials and you can get everywhere in a few steps; rooms for 1 to 4 people, a/c, free cancellation;
  • Hotel Il Gabbiano: 3-star with sea view 500 meters from the center, private pier, garden, restaurant, a/c, room service;
  • Residenza Mordini: rooms and suites for 2 to 4 people very close to the center, pool, parking, garden, spa services, bar.

Don’t expect wild nightlife in the Maddalena archipelago, the evening life is very quiet, family-friendly, and at most features a few bars with music.

And if you don’t feel like walking, you can also sit and have a chat with Garibaldi in person: you’ll find him there at all hours and, don’t worry, he’s not going anywhere! 😀

On the map at the beginning of the guide, you’ll also find the locations of the two urban bus stops closest to the pedestrian center, the port, and the tobacconist’s where you can buy bus tickets.

Another strong plus of the area marked in red is its proximity to supermarkets and mini-markets, which are almost all located around the center, while the rest of the island lacks them.

If you can’t find good prices for staying in La Maddalena in the highlighted area, don’t stray too far from the coast if you don’t like hills or need to push strollers: the island has some significant slopes even just 300-400 meters from the port.

Quiet areas outside the center

If evening life doesn’t particularly interest you, if you have a car with you to get around both day and night, or if you prefer to stay in La Maddalena in an area that makes you feel immersed in tranquility, you can also check out other areas of the island.

For example, Villaggio Piras, Nido d’Aquila in the southwest or Punta Marginetto in the North. I wouldn’t recommend the Moneta hamlet area (the one near the bridge to Caprera): between military facilities, busy roads, and somewhat abandoned buildings, it’s not much to look at.
