How to easily feel like the highest point of an island – Gran Canaria

This time the word “easily” fits absolutely, because you can reach the highest peak of Gran Canaria island, called Pico de Las Nieves counting 1949 meters on the sea, simply by car. (If you’d like to walk a more appealing path you can see the second highest peak Roque Nublo).

Once you get at the end of the road, you can park the car and just walk a few steps more on the top of the mirador (as the viewpoints are called in spanish) to enjoy the whole view and a table that helps to recognize the other visible mountains and locations. Even if you don’t pass any challenge to get to Pico de Las Nieves, the view is cool as you can see half of the island, the south-west part, until the Playa del Ingles zone, including dunas de Maspalomas before the horizon:

Looking west side you can clearly see Roque Nublo, the second peak of Gran Canaria, located a few hundred meters away and, if the sky is clear, the whole Tenerife island and its Teide volcano, the tallest peak of the whole Spain.

The view towards north-east instead is almost limited because there’s a closed building facing, that looks like an observatory.

Getting to Pico de Las Nieves is definitely easy: set your navigator to this point! 🙂

Fresh air and relax feeling are guaranteed!

…and if you sit here you can feel for a moment like the highest point of an island 😆
