Roque Nublo and the walk to the silence

The pathway to Roque Nublo is one of the most advised tours while staying in Gran Canaria.

Roque Nublo, the second highest peak of Gran Canaria island after Pico de Las Nieves, is going to please you with a stunning view on the western side of the island and a peaceful sensation.

Not to mention also some different views while walking the path to get there.

To get to Roque Nublo you need about half an hour walking and the walkpath is basically easy, except for a few meters where you need to carefully look where to put your feet. Just remember to bring with you some water and wear light shoes; I advice bringing also some food to have a nice break while looking at the horizon!

How to get to Roque Nublo

Ready? Go! Set your navigator on this point on the map, where you’ll find some space to park your car on the side of the street, then start walking the path!

On the first part of the pathway, you’ll walk over a green valley, it doesn’t even look a tropical island here!

While walking forward, the pathway will get sometimes larger sometimes more tight, until a point where the panorama is completely changing, and you’ll find yourself in the middle of a rocky desertic upland.

From here you’ll finally see Roque Nublo: yes, you can’t miss it, it’s that little stone just in front of you!

If you move to the side, you’ll be able to see most of the western side of the island and Tenerife if the sky is clear.

Take that last steps until getting to Roque Nublo; just a few steps before getting under it, you’ll find a particular viewpoint, where between the two rocks, if the sky is bright you can clearly see Tenerife island and its volcano, Teide, about 100 km away.

Now just sit down and listen to the silence! Well actually sometimes some bugs are going to break it, but… enjoy that moment anyway, while listening at no sounds, a thing that’s so hard to do these days! 🙂

Some activities you may like, before going on with the article:

After getting back to the main street, you may find a food and drink coach; if you find it, and if you are ok with getting an immediate diabetes, buy the huge meringue with almonds; you’ll need to be at least two people to eat it all, but it is so good! And also cheap, less than 2 euros.
