No, you don’t need to leave Europe to experince the unique emotion of walking on a desert, because you can find one at Dunes de Corralejo Natural Park in Fuerteventura spanish island.
And that is not the only desert, as about a hundred miles away you can find another one, again in Canary Islands, at Gran Canaria called Dunes de Maspalomas. But we will see that one on another post.
Let’s get back to Dunes de Corralejo Dunes Park. Its color and extension let you clearly see it from a plane window while you’re flying over Fuerteventura:

This dunes park is crossed by the FV-1 road, that let you easily park the car on the side on many spots.
Even if FV-1 is one of the main streets of the island, it doesn’t ruin the dunes experience.
You just need to walk a little away from it and you won’t hear vehicle sounds anymore and can relax enjoying the sound of the silence or the wind blowing.
Dunes de Corralejo Park is located at north-east side of Fuerteventura island.
I think the best spots of Dunes de Corralejo are on the south of the resorts placed about in the middle of the park. From there you can enjoy the bigger dunes and see only the old volcanoes in front of you.
If you go from the street towards the coast instead, you can find some remarkable beaches every once in a while, some of them disposing of sunbeds and lifeguards too. Nudism is also practised a lot in this zone.
The sunset time is probably gifting you with the best emotions, as cloud colours and dunes shadows give the whole atmosphere a particular touch.
I personally think that sitting on the top of a dune at the sunset watching ad the panorama and feeling the breeze is one of the experience anybody should do in life.
Here you’ll find some pictures, worth more than thousands of words.
