Quad or Dunebuggy in Fuerteventura: how to book+why you need it!

Who said that a Quad or a DuneBuggy in Fuerteventura cannot be a fun way to visit the island?

Well, not only in Fuerteventura but also into other Canary Islands taking a tour in a Dunebuggy or renting a Quad is an adrenaline experience and one of the best ways to see the heart of the island!

Fuerteventura is an island with arid and desert-like traits where the roads, although very well maintained, are limited. This is good for nature, but it could keep you far from the most beautiful natural landscapes of Fuerteventura.

However, this will not happen if you take the opportunity to go on a quad or dunebuggy ride in Fuerteventura among the craters and the heart of the island!

How the DuneBuggy or Quad Ride Works

What I’m about to tell you applies to most of the Canary Islands: I’m talking about a tour I took in Fuerteventura, but you can find similar ones, for example, in Lanzarote or Tenerife to ride on the Teide plateau.
You will find numerous Quad or Dunebuggy rental points in Fuerteventura; some even allow you to rent the vehicles and drive around independently, if you want to go on your own, while others offer guided tours, typically lasting 2-3-4 hours.

By booking a guided tour, you will follow the guide with your dunebuggy and discover the island’s natural spots and corners.

Every 20-30 minutes, there is a stop where you can take a break, see a particular attraction, listen to the guide’s explanations, or simply take some photos of the magnificent landscapes and enjoy the silence.

Where to Find the DuneBuggy or Quad Tours

Finding a dunebuggy tour in Fuerteventura is very easy: in almost all urban areas of the island, from Corralejo to Morro Jable, just walk through the central streets to find rental points.

Alternatively, you will simply see Dunebuggies parked along the road, with signs next to them and a person ready to explain how it works.
If you prefer to book in advance online with free cancellation option, further down the page you’ll find some tours.

The Dunebuggy Tour in Corralejo

What I’m telling you here is a 4-hour guided tour I personally participated in; it’s just an example of what you could explore in the north of the island.
Starting from one of the inner streets of Corralejo, we headed west until we left the urban area and the paved roads.

Some activities you may like, before going on with the article:

Crossing stony (and sometimes dusty) roads (in that case, keep a distance from the dunebuggy in front of you :lol:), we passed by some craters, stopping at a spot where the guide said there were squirrels.

By coincidence, that day the squirrels, normally attracted by the sunflower seeds that humans bring, were not there, so if promoters lure you with wildlife curiosity, don’t make it a determining factor in your choice. 😀

Continuing on the small roads in the middle of nowhere, the tour later took us to a small village where the guard dogs like panoramic views:

Then, another ride until we reached the west coast of Fuerteventura, at El Cotillo village, where we had a one-hour break for lunch.

If you try this tour, I recommend taking a walk along the coast during the break at El Cotillo and admire the surfer beaches and the power of the waves from the cliffs above.

After the break, we set off again for the part of the journey I liked the most, traveling all along the northern coast of Fuerteventura along a stony road right next to the sea, until we returned to base in Corralejo.

This last path will allow you to see charming small beaches made of white pebbles, small villages of white and blue cottages (which sometimes remind you of Speedy Gonzales villages), and plenty of nature, with craters in the background.

On one of these northern beaches, Majanicho, you could also return by car after the end of the tour.

How Much Does a Dunebuggy Ride Cost in Fuerteventura

Prices vary, so it’s hard to give a single figure. If you manage to find them under €80 per vehicle (in which two people can ride), it’s a good price! The duration of the excursion and the age of the vehicles also affect the price.
I recommend joining tours at least 3-4 hours long; the shorter ones are really “too short” and in terms of price per hour, they become more expensive.

If you stay in the south, for example in Morro Jable, there are similar tours that take you around the Jandia peninsula, the southernmost tip of Fuerteventura (and if you haven’t decided where to stay yet, take a look at the guide to the best areas to avoid making a mistake).

How to Book a Quad/Dunebuggy Ride in Fuerteventura

If you are already in Fuerteventura, try strolling through the main streets of the area you are located, looking at the vehicles with your own eyes (because some dunebuggies are really old) and then choose the one that you like the best.

Once you have chosen a tour, book it at least one day in advance to make sure the tour is confirmed and show up at the location half an hour before departure.

If, however, you prefer to book online in advance to save time, have a look at these tours available with free cancellation and reviews from other users:

Want to spend less and be more eco-friendly? Then try one of these:

Weather advice always applies: check the weather and wind forecasts with an app like Windfinder. Fuerteventura is a particularly windy island, and especially in winter, an unstable day could make the quad tour unpleasant by making you feel cold or blowing sand in your face!

What to bring on a Quad or Dunebuggy tour

  • Water;
  • Food for the break, if you prefer to take a walk instead of staying in line at the “partnered” bars suggested by the guide 😉
  • A light sweatshirt against the wind;
  • A scarf or light shawl to protect against the dust/sand that will be lifted by the quads in front of you;
  • Your most creative photography equipment to capture indescribable moments and fantastic landscapes.

Once the tour is finished, don’t miss a walk on the Corralejo dunes, maybe at sunset, to admire the desert and an incredible sense of peace! If you haven’t decided what else to visit on the island, I suggest you a 7-day itinerary.
